Here are my top tips on how best to stop the festive indulgences showing on your face!
Not being one to preach but we are old enough to know that avoiding alcohol, getting a good night’s sleep and eating fresh, healthy food will help keep our skin looking its best. But I am also a realist (and love a good Christmas get together) and with Christmas just around the corner, the Christmas party invites and festive catch-ups are coming hard and fast so to avoid being a complete bore for the whole of December, let me share some tips with you to help you come out of Christmas shenanigans with minimal skin damage.
Starting with golden oldies; I know you will have heard it all before, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore it! On the contrary, when rituals are repeated this much, then it’s time to take notice. I know how hard it is to ‘be good’ during the party season, so try and make more of an effort in the days leading up to it.
Prevention is better than cure
Whilst the champagne is chilling on ice, drink plenty of water throughout the day and ideally in between your drinks during the party. One of the biggest issues with alcohol is that it leads to dehydration – any precious moisture left in your body gets diverted to the vital internal organs, leaving the skin literally high and dry. Dehydrated skin brings on the appearance of those pesky fine lines, a dull completion and dark circles. Also (as if that wasn’t enough), dehydration can lead to skin going red and blotchy… hope I am not putting you off your Christmas bubbles!
A great tip is to (if you can remember!) use a rehydration product before you to go sleep. Can you recommend one – or is there something else you can recommend putting on skin for hydration…
Get your beauty sleep
Sleep really is a wonderful thing. Healthy, beautiful skin is improved when you sleep well as you are giving your body the time it needs to repair and regenerate. So during the party season, the more nights of sleep that are disrupted, the more compromised your skin becomes. It isn’t just a case of ‘Can I get the kids to the school drop off on time and not look too shattered?’ or ‘Can I make it through the end of year board meeting without falling asleep?’, it’s more a case of ‘Is the look I am going for blotchy, puffy skin and premature wrinkles?’ Ummm nope, hand me the face mask now thank you very much!
Having said all of this, Christmas is a time for fun and enjoyment but try not to let your skin down. It is pretty good to us so the least we can do is show it some love at Christmas and do our best to indulge it with some good moisturiser, retinoids and vitamin C serums all with proven anti-aging ingredients. Not only that wrapped beautiful into Christmas crackers the best present you could give or receive this year.
